Melia Benidorm – My weekend getaway!

I’m going to be honest, when one of my oldest friends from school decided that she wanted her hen weekend to be in the infamous Benidorm, I was a little apprehensive. I’ve seen the show, I’ve seen the memes, and had decided that it wouldn’t be my cup of tea (or sangria). But in the spirit of friendship, I went along with the plan, on one condition – we stayed somewhere nice. So on my quest to find the boujee in Benidorm I stayed at the Melia Benidorm and have got all the information you need, ready for your next Benners enquiry!

OVERVIEW

Melia Benidorm is a 4 star hotel is located on the Spanish mainline coast, around 45 minutes from Alicante airport. The hotel is split into two huge towers, both with 22 floors, so the are views pretty impressive! The reception area is light and bright and very green, and there are separate check in desks for those who book a ‘Level’ rate room.

ROOMS

There are a variety of room types available, from entry level standard rooms, family rooms and interconnecting rooms. All rooms can accomodate a minimum of 3 with a super king size bed and a sofa bed. The rooms can be set up as twins, so great if travelling with friends. The ‘Level’ rooms come with access to the ‘Level lounge’ which is an exclusive area of the hotel where guests have access to snacks and drinks all day.

FOOD AND DRINKS

We stayed in a ‘Level’ rooms so had access to all the amenities of the Level lounge and it was worth every penny. Starting with breakfast, Level guest can order from an a la carte menu and can also pop into the regular buffet restaurant for anything extra. Then during the day there are a soft drinks, beers and wine available (alcohol is available until 7pm) which can be taken out to the reserved Level sun lounger area, as long as its in a paper of plastic cup.

There are are also light snacks available all day, such as crisps, nuts, pastries, and a selection of tapas items. Staying in a Level room was such good value for us, even putting aside the alcohol, we saved a fortune on soft drinks alone.

There is a lobby bar and also a pool bar for non Level guests, or if you fancy something that is not in the lounge, and although its not super expensive, after a few days of 4 euros a soft drink, it quickly adds up.

The onsite pool snack bar is very reasonable, but basic, and was fine for a quick lunch, but there are plenty of options just a few minutes walk from the hotel, especially when the menu isn’t huge.

FACILITIES

Despite being a 10 minute walk to the Benidorm ‘strip’ the hotel feels very relaxed, and there were some families staying there. There is a kids pool and splash area, and also a hotel run kids club with activities. For the cooler days the indoor pool is heated, and there is also a spa with a wide range of treatments.

TOP TIPS!

Definitely get a Level access room and make sure you take your own plastic tumbler to take your drinks out to the sun loungers, so you don’t have to make do with paper cups!
